It’s not that often you found a restaurant that was run by a family in Bali nowadays. And by family, I meant literally a small family of father, mother, and the son.
The place called Tamade Cafetaria and you can find it in Seminyak, Bali.
The name Tamade was a mix of “Tama”, which was taken from the son’s name, and “De” was (if I remembered correctly) the mandarin word to express a relationship of possession. So the name literally means that it’s belong to Tama. Good choice of name. Quite straight forward, yes? XD
It was a small place with not many tables around, but they do have quite a lot of chairs to seat on at the outdoor area. And also, they put up good music all day which was very nice. Small places like this often gives you the most pleasure experience if you’re willing to try, and this one surely didn’t disappoint.
The place itself has a really unique decoration. Right from the door, you’ll see that their wall is full of quotes, song lyrics, some random phrases, and one big mural. If you look close enough, you’ll see that some of the words are more about the restaurant itself. It’s kind of like their way of explaining about what they do, how they do it, and why. It’s quite fun reading them all. Oh, and some of the lyrics written in the wall were some I can relate to. Damn feelings. 😛
Let’s talk about the food! Well the food was…amazing. It’s like eating your home cooked meal that was prepared by your mother. It’s really tasty and you know that the food was made with care and passion. I was with my girlfriend and we ordered two main course at that time, Umami Bowl and a garlic pork dish (I forgot the name of this garlic pork dish hahaha..). The Umami Bowl was awesome. It’s a Thai style of salted egg pork, but it has a hint of sweetness to it which combines really well with the whole dish. They put it on top of rice. Totally love it. Same thing could be said about the garlic pork. It was really great. The pork was deep fried to perfection, yet it’s still juicy. They served it also on top of rice and it came with a fried egg which completed the dish, especially when you break the runny egg yolk and let it flow to the rice. Gosh.. Man, I’m getting hungry just writing about it. 😛
Even though most of the menu were fusion of local and Chinese dishes, rest assure because they also serve western food like burgers and fries. I heard their burger was also top notch. You might want to try that too and let me know how it is since I didn’t get the chance to try it on my visit. 🙂
As for the price, I say that it’s quite standard as any other restaurant in Seminyak area. But I also want to say that with the quality of the food, I got nothing to complain about.
Even though it just the three of them who run the place, the service wasn’t failing at all. Both the father and mother were the chefs, and the son was the one who serving the food and taking care of orders. I had the pleasure of talking a little bit with the son and I must say that they’re such a humble family that just want to serve people with good food.
If you’re going to Bali and found yourself in Seminyak area, you might wanna hit the place and try their awesome food.
